U-21 set for Netball World Youth Cup

The Malawi Under-21 Netball National Team is 100 percent ready for an impressive start in the Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar as they face Trinidad& Tobago in Pool D openers this afternoon.

After registering victories in all their five international friendly matches, including 47-39 win over favourites Jamaica and 52-25 over Singapore on Wednesday, Malawi coach Noel Mussa and captain Stella Matellezi said they are confident of a victorious start.

They also triumphed 48-36, 44-31 and 36-29 against Zambia in three test series games in August.

Said Mussa: “We are now 100 percent ready for our global campaign. We know a perfect start is key to building our confidence and the girls are ready to shine as we face Trinidad & Tobago in the opener.”

On her part, Matellezi said the morale in camp is high and they have left no stone unturned in a bid to have a good start.

“There is no weak team at this competition but we are geared for a good start,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Malawi Under-21 National Netball Team sponsors Mukuru Money Transfer has organised a watch party for the opening match at the Blantyre Sports Arena (BSA).

Mukuru Malawi marketing and partner lead Taleetha Jussab yesterday said they have organised the event to allow local netball lovers enjoy the first match on the big screen.

“We know that local netball lovers would have loved to be with the team in Gibraltar but not all could be there physically. This is why we would like them to cheer the team on the big screen at the BSA,” she said.

After today’s match, Malawi U-21 will face Fiji tomorrow and South Africa on Tuesday. They will complete their pool fixtures on Wednesday with a clash against Barbados.
